RDP/VAE(Redispersible Polymer Powder/Redispersible Powder)
RDP (Redispersible Polymer Powder/Redispersible Powder) or VAE Powder (Vinyl Acetate Ethylene Copolymer) is a water-soluble re-dispersible powder. It is a copolymer of ethylene and vinyl acetate. It dissolves in water easily and forms emulsion quickly, RDP could offer strong adhesive and stretching force to improve the workability, flexibility and  water-proofing of the materials. Redispersible Polymer Powder is a kind of free-flowing white powder,which is spray-dryed by polymer emulsion and after subsequent treatment to keep the stability of powder appearance and character. The mainly application is in construction dry-mixed mortar,and have excellent performance in increasing the dry mortar cohesion,adhesion and flexibility.
The Rdp/redispersible polymer powder(VAE) is a water-soluble re-dispersible powder. It is a copolymer of ethylene and vinyl acetate. It uses polyvinyl alcohol as a protective colloid. By adding re-dispersible latex powder, the performance of mortar with cement or gypsum as the substrate can meet the needs of various constructions.

The role of Redispersible Polymer Powder RDP in mortar
Redispersible emulsion powder is mainly used in internal and external wall putty powder, tile binder, tile joint agent, dry powder interface agent, external wall insulation mortar, self-leveling mortar, repair mortar, decorative mortar, waterproof mortar external insulation dry mix mortar. The purpose of the mortar is to improve the weaknesses of traditional cement mortar such as brittleness and high elastic modulus, and to provide cement mortar with better flexibility and tensile bond strength to resist and delay the formation of cracks in cement mortar. Due to the interpenetrating network structure between polymer and mortar, a continuous polymer film is formed in the pores to strengthen the bond between aggregates. Some of the pores in the mortar are blocked, so the performance of the modified mortar after hardening is greatly improved than that of the cement mortar.

Applications and dosage
HEARST-503M is recommended to use in dry mixing mortar or powder construction material products, such as ceramic tile adhesive, tile grout, external wall insulation system (EIFS/ETICS), extrusion mortar for EPS component, waterproofing mortar, self-leveling mortar, repair mortar, decorative mortar, skim coat, fire-resistant mortar, sound insulation mortar, Joint compound, AAC adhesive, gypsum products, etc.
Normally recommended dosage is 0.5~5% in total formulation.

RDP/Redispersible Polymer Powder(Redispersible emulsion powder) can improve the bending strength and adhesion strength of mortar, because it can form a polymer film on the surface of mortar particles, and some of the surface of the film has pores, and the surface of the pores is filled by mortar, so that the stress concentration is reduced, and it will be relaxed under the action of external forces without damage. In addition, the mortar forms a rigid skeleton after the hydration of the cement, and the polymer in the skeleton has the function of an active joint, similar to the tissue of the human body, the membrane formed by the polymer can be compared to joints and ligaments, so as to ensure the elasticity and toughness of the rigid skeleton.
In the polymer modified cement mortar system, the continuous and complete polymer film is interwoven with the cement slurry and sand particles, making the whole mortar more compact, and at the same time, the whole becomes a flexible network by filling the capillary tubes and cavities. Therefore, the polymer membrane can effectively transfer pressure and elastic tension. The polymer film can bridge the shrinkage cracks at the polymer-mortar interface, and make the shrinkage cracks heal, and improve the sealing property and cohesion strength of the mortar. The presence of highly flexible and elastic polymer regions improves the flexibility and elasticity of the mortar, providing cohesion and dynamic behavior for the rigid skeleton. When external force is applied, due to the improvement of flexibility and elasticity, the microcrack expansion process will be delayed until the formation of higher stress. The interwoven polymer regions also play a certain role in preventing microfractures from merging into penetrating fractures. Therefore, the redispersible emulsion powder increases the failure stress and strain of the material.
